About the Hospital

Our hospital is a full service hospital designed and equipped to provide modern, state-of-the-art care in all phases of small animal medicine, surgery, and dentistry. The building is approximately 12,000 sq.ft.and was completely renovated and re-equipped in 2000-2001, and we are proud of it, so be sure to ask us for a tour!

We are truly a state-of-the-art facility, and utilize the most current diagnostic and treatment protocols, as well as anesthesia and monitoring techniques. All our anesthesia machines only use Isoflurane, the most reliable human anesthetic.

Typical of the equipment in the hospital is the following:

We have a specially heated and lighted ward for sick birds and other exotic pets, and separate facilities for hospitalized dogs and cats, as well as separate boarding areas, and a dedicated Isolation ward.

Laboratory tests not run in-house are received by a printer, which is hooked into our outside laboratory's computer, twice daily, with a 12 hour turnaround for the most common tests.

All of our examination rooms are equipped with X-ray viewers and video monitors, which can show informational videos to allow you to understand exactly what your pet's problem is, and how it should be treated. These monitors also show a 'virtual' tour of the non-public areas of the hospital.

Computerized Medical and Financial Records

To insure complete and proper medical care for your pets, and accurate record-keeping, we have computerized all of our hospital records. This assures you of prompt reminders for necessary vaccinations and medical or laboratory- testing follow-ups at the appropriate time.

Financial statements and receipts are also computerized to give you a complete itemization of all services performed; we strive to keep our fees competitive, and accept MC/Visa, Discover and Care Credit for your convenience, as well as your personal checks.

Please feel free to discuss your financial needs with us; we are always anxious to do all we can to assist you in providing proper care for your pet. We will make every effort to estimate your costs prior to treatment or surgery.

Suzan Napolitano, our Hospital Administrator, is happy to deal with all your non-medical questions. Email Suzan

Hospital News

  • Sadly, the most pressing news at MVH is the passing of our friend and co-worker, Dr. Eileen McHugh. The outpouring of condolences from so many of our clients is a tribute to what a phenomenal doctor she was. Her medical expertise and excellent bedside manor will be sincerely missed by all those blessed enough to have known her. Thanks go out to all of you that have helped us through this tough time.
  • With every passing, comes new life. With that, we are proud to announce that technician assistant, Tracey Konopada, and her husband, Chris, are expecting twins! The twins will be Tracey and Chris's first children, not counting their cats?
  • Welcome to new M.V.H. team members: Sarah Neill and Rebekah Lobe, joined our kennel staff. Also joining the team are two new technician assistants, Michelle Hickey and Jeanne Smith. Michelle came to us from Newton Animal Hospital, and Jeanne is a certified veterinary technician who used to work for the Bronx Zoo. Joining the staff to do light clerical work is Sharon Pezzano.
  • The veterinarians at MVH regularly attend multi-day continuing education meetings to keep their knowledge and skills up to date. Dr. Greg Erdman will be attending the Wild West Convention in Reno in October. Dr. Wende Saunders will be attending a convention on herbs in Florida. Dr. Doug Heacock will be attending the American Animal Hospital Associates meeting in Baltimore in March. Dr. Barbara Day attended the AVMA's convention in Philadelphia in July of this year.
  • Madison Feed and Grooming has appointed Katie Summers as the assistant store manager. Congratulations, Katie!
  • Groomer April Koscuik will be marrying Tom Schlack on October 23. Best of luck to you both!
  • Jenni Voytac and her Doberman, Tiki, are proud to have completed their CD in competition obedience. A CD, or Companion Dog Title, is the first achievable title in competition obedience. Congratulations, Jenni and Tiki! All your hard work is paying off.

Community Involvement

  • Dog Bite Awareness Program to Schools (Grades 3-6); we have for several years had an ongoing program for schools which is very ably run by Dr. Day, to help young children understand how to approach dogs, and hopefully avoid the large number of bites which occur in this age-group.
  • Subsidized Spay / Neuters for St. Huberts Giralda; again a long running program we perform substantially all of the routine spays and neuters in dogs and cats being put up for adoption at St. Huberts. This program, run at way below cost, is another way of our giving back to the community
  • Constant Availability for Seminars / Talks to Breeders or Community Groups; the last one of this type was Dr. Van Beveren's recent September 8th. talk to the MARDOG group on the effects, diagnosis, and treatment of Hip Dysplasia in dogs.
  • Veterinary coverage at St. Huberts Dog Walk for the past ten years.
  • Madison Soccer Sponsorship; the hospital has sponsored a Madison High School soccer team for the last several years.
